Why does my BIOS freeze during the update process?

I'm having trouble updating the BIOS on my Asrock B450/AC 2.0 motherboard. Currently, I'm running BIOS version 2.70 and trying to upgrade to the latest version, 10.41. I formatted my 128GB USB drive from exFAT to FAT32 (16KB allocation) and everything seemed fine at first. The USB was recognized, and I selected the update option, but when I clicked 'Update,' the system just froze with no status bar, and I couldn't move my mouse. I thought I bricked my system, but after restarting the power supply, it booted normally. I suspect the USB drive might be part of the problem, and I'm looking for any advice or help. TL;DR: My BIOS freezes when trying to update, but my PC boots fine after a restart; could the USB drive be an issue?

Have you tried using a smaller USB drive? Some manufacturers recommend using drives 8GB or smaller when updating the BIOS. It might help with the freezing issue.

It sounds like you're trying to make a big jump in BIOS versions, which might be causing the freeze. Check the release notes for the BIOS updates because sometimes you need to go through an interim version first. If you're running Windows on the machine, it might be worth using their built-in updater, which can guide you through the process without relying on USB drives.
