Hey everyone! I got contacted for a Technical Program Manager position at AWS and, while I'm super excited, I'm pretty nervous about the interview process. I've been watching a bunch of YouTube videos to prepare, but I'd love to get some insights from you all about what to expect during the phone screening. What kind of questions do they typically ask, and how should I best prepare for it? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The interview will likely use the STAR method for behavioral questions, so be ready to discuss scenarios related to project management. Questions like "Tell me about a time when you had to manage competing priorities" or "Describe a situation where you had to influence without authority" will come up. Also, brush up on system design basics; you need to explain technical concepts clearly, especially for a diverse audience.

You might want to check out the channel "Amazon Interview Whizz" for some interview prep resources. The phone screenings usually include a mix of technical questions and one or two inquiries about Amazon's Leadership Principles. They often start off with something like, "Tell me about yourself" and then dive into why you want to work at Amazon.

In AWS interviews, they love to probe into your past behavioral experiences through the Leadership Principles framework. Expect questions that push you to showcase your ownership, customer obsession, and your ability to take initiative using specific examples. The technical side will dig into system design and how you'd handle complex programs across different teams, so knowing your AWS architecture is a must! Prepare some solid stories that highlight your impact and navigate technical challenges.
