Is It Worth Upgrading to a PCI-E 5.0 SSD for Future-Proofing?

I'm currently running a powerful setup with a 3900X CPU, 32GB of RAM, and a 3080 GPU on my Aorus X570 Elite motherboard. I've recently upgraded to a 5950X CPU and an RTX 5090 with 64GB of RAM to enhance my content creation tasks, which include 4K HDR video editing and using Blender. At the moment, I've got a Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB SSD that offers a read speed of 5000 MB/s and a write speed of 4000 MB/s.

Since my motherboard has two PCI-E 4.0 x4 slots, I'm contemplating an upgrade to a more affordable PCI-E 5.0 x4 SSD, specifically the Lexar NM990 2TB, available at around €190. This SSD boasts impressive read/write speeds of 14000/12000 MB/s, but I realize my motherboard can only utilize about 7500 MB/s max due to its PCI-E 4.0 slots. I'm thinking of investing in this SSD now so that when I eventually upgrade my motherboard in the next couple of years, the SSD will still be relatively fast.

Do you think this is a smart move, or should I consider something else? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this! Thanks!

Honestly, I think going for the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB might be a better choice. It'll give you excellent performance and it's a solid deal for €150. The difference you get with a PCI-E 5.0 SSD might not be worth the extra cost just yet.

I think waiting a bit might be a better option. PCI-E 5.0 SSDs are pretty pricey right now, and chances are the prices will drop significantly in a couple of years. You could grab one then for a much better deal! Plus, you can find good PCI-E 4.0 SSDs that would serve you well for now without breaking the bank.
