Upgraded CPU but My GPU Score Dropped—What’s Going On?

I just upgraded my AM4 setup from a Ryzen 5 5600X to a Ryzen 9 5900XT, and I completely wiped and reinstalled Windows 11. My benchmarks show a significant boost in CPU performance, which is expected. However, I noticed that my RTX 5070's score in Passmark is about 20% lower now than it was with the 5600X, which seems off. Can anyone suggest what I should look into? My setup includes an Asus B450 Gaming Pro motherboard, 32 GB of RAM, and a 4TB M.2 SSD.

It’s strange that your GPU's performance in Passmark dropped after the upgrade. Those scores are not that important for gaming anyway. Have you tried running actual games or some tests like 3D Mark's Timespy? Also, just to clarify, did you upgrade for productivity reasons instead of gaming? The difference in gaming performance between the 5600X and 5900XT isn't huge, so a 5700X3D or 5800X3D might have given you a better gaming boost if that was your goal.

I wasn't aiming to maximize gaming performance. I do a lot of design and photography work, and the new CPU really helped with Lightroom. I got a good deal on the 5900XT, so I decided to go for it instead of jumping to AM5 right away.

Make sure to run a game without any Vsync or FPS cap. If your GPU usage is around 98%, then it's likely working fine. Sometimes, synthetic benchmarks can give weird results that don’t reflect real-world performance.
