Hey everyone! I just bought a Kingston DataTraveler Exodia M 128GB from a local store, and I made sure it was brand new. After doing some speed tests with CrystalDiskMark, the numbers I got were shockingly low. Here's what I found:
|CrystalDiskMark64|Read (MB/s)|Write (MB/s)|
|:-|:-|:-|
|SEQ1M/Q8T1|83.11|10.25|
|SEQ1M/Q1T1|78.26|12.55|
|RND4K/Q32T1|5.68|1.61|
|RND4K/Q1T1|3.71|1.23|
When I checked the Kingston website, the speeds seemed decent, but now I'm wondering if I made a bad choice. Is this performance typical for this model? I cut the packaging open so I can't return it, but I really hope it's not defective. Any advice? Thanks!

Most budget USB drives nowadays are comparable in speed, especially with cheaper QLC flash memory. The specs you saw online might be a bit optimistic. Just remember that in this price range, you're not going to get super-fast transfer rates.
Have you checked if your computer's USB port is compatible with the drive? Make sure you're using a USB 3.0 or 3.2 port for optimal performance!
Yeah, those speeds are pretty standard for the Kingston DataTraveler Exodia M. It's more of a budget USB 2.0/3.2 Gen 1 drive, which means really slow write speeds. While the read speeds are decent for light use, you shouldn't expect much when writing. It's not a defect – just designed for casual use, not high-performance tasks.
Yes, my device manager shows it's connected to USB 3.0 and 3.2 ports. So, compatibility isn't the issue.
