Why is my integrated graphics being used instead of my graphics card?

I was playing Balatro and noticed it was lagging. I checked my task manager and saw that my integrated graphics were being used more than my dedicated graphics card. I'm on Windows 11, and I've already tried changing the settings to high performance and added the game to use my graphics card in the Nvidia control panel. Can anyone help me fix this issue?

First off, double-check that your video output isn't plugged into the motherboard instead of your graphics card. If that's the case, you'll be using integrated graphics regardless of your settings. Since you're on a laptop, that's probably not the issue, but it's worth noting for desktop users! Also, check your BIOS settings to make sure the dedicated GPU is prioritized. Sometimes, systems default to the integrated graphics for energy-saving reasons.

I had a similar issue, and changing the BIOS settings did the trick for me. Just make sure to be careful with your changes!

If your laptop has an Nvidia card, ensure that it's not just a simple case of the laptop defaulting to integrated graphics for power saving. Sometimes you can specify which GPU to use per application in the Nvidia control panel. Just make sure Balatro is set to use the Nvidia GPU specifically.

Yeah! Also, try updating your Nvidia drivers. That can sometimes help force the system to recognize the dedicated GPU.
