Help Me Choose Between the 7800X3D and 9800X3D CPUs

I'm in the market for a new CPU and can't decide between the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D. Both have similar MSRP, but right now the 7800X3D is on sale for about $110 less than the 9800X3D. Is the performance difference worth that extra cash? Also, which motherboard would you suggest for each of these chipsets? My setup will include a 5070TI, and I'm planning to play some graphics-intensive games, possibly with mods.

If you think that $110 could go towards a better GPU instead, then stick with the 7800X3D. However, if you already have your GPU sorted and can afford the extra $110, the upgrade to the 9800X3D is worthwhile. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Honestly, the 7800X3D gives about 85-90% of the performance of the 9800X3D and is currently much better value for the price. Most gamers won’t notice much difference unless you’re playing really CPU-intensive games, which should make the 7800 a smart pick.

The performance difference at 2K or 4K resolutions is pretty minimal—about 2-3 FPS on average. So, unless you’re chasing ultra-high frame rates, you might find the 7800X3D to be a solid choice.

I faced the same choice not long ago. Initially, I leaned toward the 7800X3D, but once I saw the 9800X3D price, I realized I'm investing in a high-end build, so why not splurge a little on the CPU?
