I've been using WhatsApp to chat with my family in Germany, but the sound quality on my end is pretty awful—tinny and scratchy. I can't use a headset because my husband wants to join in as well. We tried WhatsApp on my laptop, which sounded better for me, but my family experienced terrible echoing issues. The only option for them is using their phones, both of which are Android. I'm looking for a solution that's fairly simple to use. My daughter can help out if it's a bit technical, but I'd appreciate any easy suggestions!

Cisco Webex is another excellent choice. It has fewer glitches and allows for up to 40 minutes on the free version, which should work for your chats!
If WhatsApp isn't cutting it, maybe consider getting a decent Bluetooth speaker with a built-in microphone. It should help with sound quality and let everyone join the conversation easily without needing to switch apps.
That’s a solid idea! Even a basic one would probably sound better than my phone.
If you have different phones for you and your husband, you could both wear headsets and use Discord together. It has noise suppression features that might help with clarity, plus it’s pretty easy to set up group calls too.
Have you tried using Signal? It's been working great for us! We switched for security reasons, but it's become our go-to for calls and messages.
Thanks! I’ll mention that to my family and see if we can give it a shot.
You might also want to explore options like Zoom, Google Meet, or Viber. They're user-friendly and work well for family calls.
I hadn’t considered that one. Thanks for the suggestion!
