Hey everyone! I'm currently studying computer science at university, and I've been into coding since high school. I'm 19 now and I'm eager to start earning some money without relying on my parents. So, I'm feeling a bit lost on how to kickstart my job search. Here's what I've learned so far:
- HTML and CSS
- Basic logic (I can manipulate variables, data structures, arrays, and lists, but only for simple tasks)
- Object-oriented programming
- A bit of Pascal, C#, and JavaScript
- Almost B2 level English (my native language is Spanish)
I've noticed there's a high demand for web developers, even though I prefer backend tasks. What do you all think? What steps should I take next? I'm open to starting with a lower salary, as any income would help!

Just a heads up, while you’ve got some basics down, many jobs will require more foundational knowledge. Consider diving into fundamental topics like data structures, algorithms, and maybe some advanced math. Also, connections matter, so try to network in your local tech community!
You really should focus on building a project, even if it’s a small one. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but having something to show potential employers can really make a difference. Plus, it’ll help you learn tons along the way!
It sounds like you’ve got a decent start with your skills! I recommend picking one of the programming languages and diving deeper into it. Frameworks like Flask for Python or .NET for C# are great choices since many jobs will prioritize your knowledge of specific frameworks over the languages themselves. Good luck!
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm definitely leaning towards Flask.
That makes sense! I’ll definitely hit the books and see if I can find some local meetups.
