Should I Upgrade My CPU and GPU Together or Just One?

I recently got a stunning 360Hz 1440p OLED monitor and want to optimize my gaming experience. Currently, I have an RTX 3070 paired with a Ryzen 7 5800x. While most games run smoothly at 1440p, I'm aiming for a stable 359 FPS to fully utilize my new monitor's refresh rate. If I decide to upgrade to an RTX 5070 Ti, will I be fine sticking with my current CPU, or do I need to swap that out too? Also, are there any other upgrades I should consider in my setup? This is my first time upgrading components, so any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Your setup with the 5800x should handle a 5070 Ti pretty well without any major bottlenecks. I recommend checking out benchmark videos comparing the 5070 Ti with various CPUs to gauge performance. My personal setup runs a 5800X3D with a 3070, and it keeps up nicely even with newer GPUs like the 5080. Upgrade the GPU first and see how much it improves your FPS!

But remember, there’s a significant difference between the 5800x and 5800X3D!

It's generally a good idea to upgrade your GPU first and see how things perform. At 1440p, gaming is mainly GPU-bound, so moving to a 5070 Ti should give you a significant boost, around double the performance of your 3070. After that, you can evaluate if your CPU is holding you back.
