How Can I Test My Linux Skills as a Self-Taught SysAdmin?

I'm a self-taught SysAdmin and currently in my second IT job. Both of my jobs have been remote, with no on-premise domain servers, as we use Entra entirely. While I've learned a lot, I still feel unsure about my skills compared to others. I'm a humble homelabber with some older small form factor PCs, but I'm looking for ways to gauge my knowledge and be more effective as a Linux professional. Besides taking certification exams, what are some good ways to test my skills?

One of the best ways to test your knowledge is by going through job interviews, even if you're not planning to switch jobs. Interviews can help you understand what skills are currently in demand and what tech companies are looking for. It's a learning process, and you won't always get everything right, but facing those questions can really help you assess your strengths and gaps.

That’s a great point! I've seen candidates who weren’t perfect technically but showed amazing growth potential. They were eager to learn and always followed up on things they didn't know, which speaks volumes.

Don't rely solely on Reddit; a lot of posts can range from the very advanced to super niche issues. The middle ground—common knowledge—is often easily found through a quick Google search. Try looking into Linux-specific learning challenges or sites like linuxupskillchallenge.org. They provide structured ways to level up your skills.
