Why is Windows 11 Search So Slow After a Fresh Install?

I just did a fresh reimage of a PC running Windows 11, and I've noticed that the search function is incredibly slow. For example, when I click on the Start menu and search for something like 'Paint', it takes about four minutes before any results show up. I've also seen slow loading times in Edge while browsing. I'm on OS Build 26100.4349 and have already tried disabling search indexing via the registry and resetting CBS Appx using PowerShell, but nothing seems to help. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any ideas on how to fix it?

You might want to check the Event Viewer logs. I came across a situation where ESENT was throwing errors related to file permissions for the Administrator account's WebCache. It can really mess up Windows search functionality. In my case, giving broader read and execute permissions to the file it was complaining about resolved the lag in search.

Do you have any documentation or a script that could help with this fix?

That sounds exactly like my issue! I'm seeing ESENT errors about the WebCache too. How do you normally fix this after imaging a PC?

Have you considered checking for missing chipset or graphics drivers? Sometimes driver issues can slow down search and overall performance.

Yeah, I think it could be related to the ESENT errors. I'm unsure how the WebCache gets set up though.
