Is It Normal for My External Hard Drive to Make Clicking Sounds?

I'm in the process of transferring a bunch of pictures and videos from my phone to my external hard drive. During these transfers, I've noticed that the drive sometimes clicks, especially when I'm uploading pictures. It's not super rhythmic, and it goes quiet at times too. Just checking to see if this clicking is a normal sound for a hard drive during transfers?

It sounds like you're experiencing typical drive noises. The clicks usually happen as the drive reads and writes data. If the clicking is constant or gets more intense, you might want to keep an eye on it, but occasional clicks are usually fine!

I appreciate the advice! Just to be safe, I recorded the sounds and wanted to see if they're normal. Thanks for the help!

Yep, those clicking sounds are pretty common when you're transferring files! The drive makes more noise when copying smaller files like pictures because they finish processing faster, so it's totally normal. Don't worry too much about it.

Thanks for the reassurance! I uploaded a video of the sounds too; do you think that sounds normal?
