Issues with New Mac Mini: Account Creation Error

Hey everyone, I just got my hands on a brand new Mac mini, but during the setup process, I ran into an error stating that too many Apple accounts have been created with this device. It's quite baffling because I purchased it new. To make matters worse, I had two Apple support agents hang up on me unexpectedly while I was trying to get help. Now I'm worried if my Mac is defective, stolen, or possibly used. Should I return it? Also, I'd like to report this situation to the appropriate European institution; does anyone have any leads on where to start?

Definitely return the Mac! If you think it might have been used or refurbished before you bought it, it’s best not to take any chances. And about those agents hanging up, that’s usually a sign of frustration on both sides; hopefully, it wasn’t your fault. Regarding the European institution, you might want to check out ECC—European Consumer Centre, they could help with the complaint.

It sounds like there might be a problem with your Mac. Since you mentioned that you bought it new, it's concerning to see that error pop up. Generally, if the setup wizard is throwing that kind of message, it could be an indication that the device was registered before you got it. I suggest returning it right away; better safe than sorry! As for reporting it, it's a bit vague what you want to report, but if you feel misled, contacting your local consumer protection group could be a good start.

I totally agree with returning it. Just grab your receipt and go for an exchange. If they give you a hard time, escalate the issue to a manager.

Ditching it for sure! It seems strange that you got that error. I'd recommend getting a refund and buying directly from Apple next time. As for reporting, just explain your issue to the consumer rights agency, they should guide you on what to do.
