We're planning to transition away from VMware, particularly after the Broadcom acquisition, and don't want to be stuck with their virtualization licensing anymore. We're looking at Hyper-V since many others seem to be making the move. However, our setup consists of various Dell servers with Intel processors that are from different generations. While that runs smoothly on VMware, I've heard there might be issues with mixed hardware on Hyper-V. Has anyone had experience using Hyper-V in a mixed hardware environment? Any performance concerns I should be aware of? Just for reference, we use Veeam Backup, so migrating our VMs to Hyper-V should be manageable since it supports slightly different hardware configurations.

You shouldn’t have any problems! It generally works like VMware in this respect. By default, you can't migrate a machine (like vMotion) to a host that has a lower CPU generation, which mimics how VMware operates. There are some limitations, but overall you should be fine with mixed hardware.
Awesome, thanks so much for the clarification. I was getting lost in the details and stressing about whether or not we'd have to bite the bullet on VMware but seems Hyper-V is the ticket.
