Hey everyone! I put together a gaming PC build and I'm wondering how well it will handle 1440p gaming. Here's what I've got:
- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
- **GPU**: MSI VENTUS 3X OC GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB Video Card
- **Motherboard**: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
- **RAM**: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000
- **SSD**: Acer FA200 2 TB M.2 NVMe SSD
- **Case**: Lian Li LANCOOL 216 RGB ATX Mid Tower
- **PSU**: Montech Titan Gold 1000W Fully Modular Power Supply
- **Cooler**: ENDORFY Fortis 5 ARGB CPU Cooler
I'm also planning to upgrade to a 6080 GPU later, and I think the 1000W PSU should be sufficient. Any thoughts on the compatibility and performance for 1440p?

Your build is definitely beyond compatible for 1440p. Actually, it's pretty much overkill, which isn’t a bad thing! However, I suggest looking into a better SSD because what you have is a QLC Dramless drive. It might be fine for gaming, but it has a lower TBW compared to drives that offer better performance for similar costs. Also, consider upgrading your cooler—something like the Thermalright brand could work well!
Honestly, this setup is sitting comfortably in the "overkill" category for 1440p, and that's great! But you should think about getting a dual tower cooler instead of that single-fan setup. Your 9800X3D deserves better cooling to maintain those boost clocks. Trust me, it'll help with performance.
Great point! I was looking at those Thermalright coolers as well.
This is a stellar build for 1440p, though you might want to consider a B850 motherboard for PCIe 5.0 support. Sometimes the B650 boards don’t come with the right BIOS for the 9800X3D right out of the box. Just something to keep in mind!
B650 boards can support PCIe 5.0, mine does at least (ASUS PRIME B650-Plus). But if you're fine with it, a B850 is a solid choice too!
You're mentioning the MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK, right?
You might want to switch the GPU model; I wouldn't count on the ‘Venus’ series—get a Zotac or PNY instead. Also, an AIO cooler could be a worthwhile investment for better CPU cooling.
You’re good for 1440p, but honestly, this will handle 4K easily! Just make sure the PSU is solid; consider an upgrade on that too if you haven't already.
Would the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB or the Thermalright Phantom Spirit EVO be good options for cooling?
