What Windows Services Can I Safely Disable?

I just stumbled upon the Windows Administrative Tools and got curious about the services in the System Configuration app. I aim to be an IT generalist (the kind that metaphorically needs to touch grass!). Looking through the services, I noticed quite a few applications that I don't use, but I'm unsure about what I can safely disable without messing things up.

For example, I found some Apple programs like Bonjour and the Apple Mobile Device Service, yet I don't have iTunes installed. Plus, there are Hyper-V and Bitlocker services on my PC, but I only have Windows Home edition, so I can't really use them because they say "stopped." It bugs me that they're just sitting there taking up space. I was thinking of disabling the Bluetooth service since I only use it occasionally. What other services can I disable safely?

Hey there! Honestly, it’s usually best to leave the default settings as they are unless you have a really specific reason to change something. If you’re not experiencing issues, it’s probably best to keep those services running. Plus, having a lot of services disabled can complicate things down the road, especially if you end up needing them later. Try not to optimize too much unless you know what you’re doing!

Totally agree! It's easier to deal with unexpected issues when everything's left as is.

You might be right about the Bluetooth service if you rarely use it, but definitely think twice before disabling anything else, especially those system-level services. They can support other features you may end up needing. Just keep an eye on what’s running, and if it’s not causing any harm, let it be!

Yeah, if there's no issue, keep it running. Learning is what matters!
