Should I Upgrade Just My GPU or My Whole Setup?

Hey everyone! I'm torn between upgrading just my GPU to a 5070 Ti or going all out with a full system upgrade including a new motherboard, CPU (9800x3D), and more RAM. Currently, I have an i7 12th gen, a 3070 GPU, and 32GB of DDR5 5200 RAM. I've been enjoying playing Valorant at 161 fps/1080p and recently, I've managed to run some new titles like the anime battle royale "Fate Trigger" at 1440p with decent FPS. However, I'm thinking of expanding my gaming library to include heavier games like Battlefield 6. What would you suggest? Should I wait and just upgrade the GPU for now?

If you can hold off on a full kit upgrade, definitely do that! Just upgrade the GPU for now. You might also think about swapping to a 9070 XT instead of the 5070 Ti—it’s shown some performance gains and could save you some cash for other upgrades later on. Overall, your current setup should handle games like BF6 just fine.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll consider the 9070 XT.

You’ve got a good setup as it is! Unless you have specific needs that require a new CPU, I’d focus on the GPU. Battlefield 6 should run well, and the upgrade will keep you set for a while. Also, remember, 64GB of RAM isn’t really necessary just for gaming, so you might want to save that for the future.

Totally agree! The 12700 is still powerful enough, no need to rush into a full upgrade. Putting your money into the GPU will give you the best performance boost for gaming. Plus, 32GB of RAM is still plenty for most games, so I wouldn’t stress about that right now.

I’d say stick with upgrading just the GPU for now. Your i7 is still a solid performer, and you’ll notice a significant jump in graphics by going to the 5070 Ti. The CPU isn’t really holding you back, especially if you're already pushing 1440p at good frame rates.

Going for just the GPU sounds like the best plan! Your CPU and RAM are already doing great, and a new GPU will give you plenty of extra performance without breaking the bank right now. Maybe save for a full upgrade down the line when prices settle?
