I'm 17 and considering taking the self-taught route by learning through online courses, YouTube, and building my own projects. I'm thinking about skipping the traditional BS degree altogether in favor of this 'no BS' approach. Is this a smart decision in today's job market if I'm dedicated and develop real skills? I'd love to hear your opinions!

I recommend sticking with school. While self-learning can teach you coding skills, without a degree, you'll really struggle to get an entry-level job. Companies usually prefer candidates with a degree. Plus, college gives you a well-rounded education that can help in the long run.
Could you elaborate? What specific aspects do you think a degree adds that self-learning wouldn't?
