I need some help. I tried to create an iCloud account for my child today and got a message saying that my device has been used too many times to create an account and is now locked out. This is confusing since it's a brand new, out-of-the-box device that I've never used before. When I contacted Apple Support, they left the chat while I was still communicating, and every time I tried to reconnect, the new person would just ask the same basic questions and then disconnect me again. Meanwhile, I kept getting messages saying they hadn't heard from me and needed a response to keep the chat going. This has me worried—could it mean my device is refurbished, or that someone else is using my serial number? I just switched to Apple and I'm wondering if this is the kind of support I should expect.

Honestly, it sounds like you're having a really frustrating experience, but you're not the only one. Many people have run into issues with the account creation process lately. It's probably just a glitch rather than anything shady going on with your device. I’d recommend being persistent; sometimes getting through to the right support person takes a few tries.
You really only have a small sampling of interactions to draw conclusions from. It’s tough to judge the service based on just three calls. Each person you connect with might have a different level of knowledge or access to tools. Just hang in there; hopefully, the next person will be more helpful.
I get that, but I've already talked to four different people in 35 minutes and they all seem lost! I love my new Mac, but this support system is making me rethink my switch.
Thanks for that! It's good to know I'm not alone in this. I've set up a callback with Apple, so I hope that helps in resolving everything.
