Struggling with Steam Games Not Launching on Linux Mint

Hey everyone! I recently switched from Windows 10 to Linux Mint and overall, I'm enjoying the experience. However, I've hit a snag with Steam—specifically, some of my games just won't launch. I've got my Steam library stored on a separate hard drive, and every time I restart my PC, I have to re-select that hard drive in Steam settings even though I set it as the default. I've been making sure that Steam runs games using Proton (which I've set up) for those that don't support Linux natively. I've also checked for any corrupt or missing game files. Out of four games I tested, only Haste launched successfully, while Dishonored 2, MegaMan Zero/VX Collection, and Soul Reaver 1+2 just won't start at all, as Steam tells me they're launching but then nothing happens. Any insights?

First, check the filesystem on your external drive. If it’s NTFS, that might cause issues with Proton. You probably want to make sure it’s mounted correctly in your fstab too. That could help with the drive not being recognized after reboots.

How can I find out what filesystem my drive is using? I’ve been using it for Steam for a while even before switching to Linux.
