Best Linux Distros for Gaming on an Old PC

I'm currently using an old PC with Windows XP and I've been thinking about switching to Linux for better gaming performance. My specs are: an MSI G41M-P28 motherboard, an Intel Celeron D 331 processor, an MSI GT 220 graphics card, and 2GB of RAM. I'm planning to upgrade the RAM to 8GB and replace my rusted GPU. Also, I need to get an SSD, since I don't want to install Linux on an old Maxtor HDD. Are there any beginner-friendly Linux distros that are good for gaming?

You mentioned spending about $10 on RAM? That's a steal! Linux can manage memory a lot better than XP, so upgrading is definitely worthwhile. Just remember, any modern game may still struggle on that CPU.

You could definitely consider Lubuntu or Linux Mint! They're lighter on resources, which may help your gaming experience. Plus, they're pretty user-friendly for beginners.

Honestly, with that Celeron processor, gaming might be pretty limited. It runs old games decently like GTA San Andreas, but anything newer probably won't work well. Maybe focus on upgrading if you're really set on playing something more recent.

How about trying Q40? Also, some users enjoy Bazzite but not sure how it’ll perform with your specs. If you're ever bored, reviving this old PC is a good project!

If you're looking to stick with that old machine, I'd suggest checking out Nobara or Mint as they're relatively light yet offer good support for gaming. Also, looking into used newer machines might not be a bad idea.
