Should I be worried if someone only knows my phone number?

I'm getting a bit anxious here. Someone I don't even know from my city claimed they sent my phone number to someone else. They mentioned that the other person could get my IP address from this information. I immediately started using a VPN for protection, but now I'm unsure if there's real danger or if they're just trying to scare me. What can someone do with just my phone number? How long should I keep using the VPN?

Haha, just kidding around, but I can see how that can sound scary. Your digital security is important, but you don’t need to panic over a number. Just keep your info private and you should be fine!

You really don’t need to stress too much. Your phone number by itself doesn’t tie directly to your IP address unless you’ve given it out through certain apps. Also, a VPN isn’t going to help with this situation since it’s more about the kind of information you share online. Just be careful about what you share in the future!

Okay, got it. Thanks for reassuring me, even if it wasn’t the answer I was hoping for!

Yeah, don’t sweat it. Your IP address is something that any site you visit can see, and it’s not linked to your phone number in a straightforward way. So, relax – they're probably just trying to scare you.

Honestly, it's time we just got rid of phone books altogether at this point!
