What’s the deal with the M.2 screws on the Gigabyte B650 motherboard?

I'm building a new PC and using a Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX v2 motherboard. I didn't have my M.2 SSD when I started assembling everything, so I figured I'd just install it before putting in the graphics card. But when I actually went to install the M.2, I ran into trouble. I had to take the motherboard out of the case, and even then, I couldn't get the screw to budge. It's so tight that it's literally tearing up my skin. At this point, I'm feeling pretty desperate—what can I do to get this screw out? I'm even considering crazy solutions! By the way, the screws holding the M.2 heatsinks down are what I'm talking about. It turns out that these screws might be notoriously tight on this board. Anyone have tips or tricks?

You might need a special tool if it’s super stuck. There’s this impact screwdriver that can help—it’s designed for stuck screws. You just tap it lightly; don’t hit it too hard since it’s meant for larger bolts. It should help you grab onto that M.2 screw better.

Just be careful with that tool—these screws are small, so overdoing it could cause more damage.

I’ve used that motherboard a few times, and I've never had an issue installing the SSD. For future builds, it's a good idea to prep everything—put the SSD, CPU, cooler, and RAM on the motherboard first. That way, you can avoid tight spots in the case.

It sounds like that screw is being a pain! Make sure you’re using the correct screwdriver. It sounds like those are Philips #0 screws, not #2. If you're rounding the head, that could be making it even tougher to get out. Maybe try applying downward pressure while turning it counter-clockwise? They shouldn’t be that tight. If you're still stuck, consider using a screw extractor.

Yeah, those screws can be tricky! I recommend getting a screw extractor if it’s stripped. It’ll save you a lot of headaches.
