Hey everyone! I'm using a Ryzen 5 2600X with the stock Wraith Stealth cooler, and I'm having serious overheating issues. During Prime95 stress tests, the CPU temperature shoots up to 100°C! I've even replaced the thermal paste, but it hasn't helped at all. My CPU temp often exceeds 90 degrees while gaming too.
I'm considering my options: should I buy a second-hand low-profile cooler, which costs almost as much as the CPU, or would it be smarter to sell my 2600X and upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5500 or 5600, which have lower thermal design power (TDP)? Just for reference, my ITX system can only accommodate CPU coolers up to 95mm tall. What do you think?

I'd suggest selling the 2600X and going for the 5600. That's a significant upgrade, and it opens the door for better GPU options as well. Your gaming experience should improve too!
You could fix the heating issues with a budget tower cooler, but with your ITX limit, I get why you're leaning towards a low-profile one. The 5500 isn't great, but if you stick with the 5700, you'll definitely see better performance. Just check your case dimensions first.
You might not need to stress over the Prime95 results. If everything is running fine during regular use, then you might manage for now. But if you're seeing high temps during gaming, I'd recommend watching out! Overheating isn't something to ignore.
Honestly, that stock cooler is pretty subpar, so upgrading makes sense. If you sell your 2600X, you could easily get a decent budget air cooler for the new CPU, allowing for better thermal and performance improvement. Plus, you'd likely find that the newer Ryzen chips run cooler and are more efficient overall.
Seriously, if your case allows it, a $20 tower cooler could really help. But if gaming performance is suffering, consider an upgrade to a newer CPU. Don't forget that thermal performance matters for longer gameplay!
