Hey everyone! I have a decent setup with an i5 12400f, a 3060, and a MSI Pro B660M-A motherboard (won't bore you with the rest of my specs). I've recently started coding, and I'm finding that 16GB of RAM just isn't cutting it. I'm considering upgrading to 32GB, but I'm a bit concerned about whether it's wise to stick with DDR4 at this time. I'm not looking for a complete system overhaul since I'm happy with my current performance aside from the RAM. Do you think investing in a 32GB DDR4 kit makes sense for my needs?

From what you mentioned, upgrading to 32GB DDR4 should definitely help with your coding tasks. It's not unwise at all since DDR4 is still affordable. Just get what you need without worrying about switching to DDR5 right now unless you plan to overhaul everything soon.
Honestly, DDR4 is still a suitable option. For most tasks today, including gaming and coding, it works just fine. You might not need DDR5 anytime soon unless you're diving into heavy performance stuff.
From what I hear, DDR4 will remain good enough for a while for general use. I'm also still running DDR4.
Exactly. Just don’t panic about DDR5 unless you’re looking for a new setup next year!
I'd say go for it! Upgrading to 32GB will definitely provide you with more breathing room, especially if you multitask with tabs, coding tools, and resources. Windows can really hog up RAM, so this will help a lot! Plus, it’s still easy to find DDR4 for a decent price, and it feels good to max out your system without a total overhaul.
I know what you mean! I often have multiple IDEs and browsers running—it eats up RAM fast.
Absolutely! Just invest in good quality RAM while it’s still available.
Let's say it's around $75 for 32GB? If this RAM upgrade helps you with your projects or work for years to come, that’s a bargain!
Totally worth it if it can get you through your sessions without freezing!
Yeah, I think that's a great deal for what you're getting.
If you're satisfied with everything else in your system, then upgrading to 32GB sounds like a solid move! You're talking about spending around $50 to $100 max, and if that helps with your coding and multitasking, it’s definitely worth it. Just make sure you don’t upgrade to DDR5 right after because that would be a bummer!
You can probably find 32GB for even cheaper these days. Check if you have four slots; you might only need to add 2x8GB sticks!
Yeah, I'm also in a wait-and-see mode for my next upgrade, so this investment seems smart!
Exactly! DDR4 is really inexpensive now, and sticking with what works for you is totally fine.
