What Should I Do After My Computer ‘Exploded’ While Cleaning?

Hey everyone, I need some advice! I was trying to clean my computer because it wouldn't turn on, and while using compressed air, it suddenly exploded in my face and even caught fire. I've burned myself a bit, but surprisingly, the computer doesn't look damaged. What should I do now?

Did the can of compressed air actually ignite somehow? That can happen if the propellant gets too hot or is misused. Be careful next time!

What does that mean? How would that happen?

You should probably keep your distance from the computer and let someone who knows about these things take a look. It’s safer that way.

I might try turning it on to see if it works, and if not, I can just return it to the store since the warranty is still good.

It’s possible that a capacitor popped. But if it was cool before you cleaned it, that might not be it.

Yeah, the computer hadn’t been used for a couple of days before that.

A computer that won't turn on usually isn’t a cleaning issue unless it’s super dirty, like if you smoke around it. Did the compressed air can explode, or was it something inside your computer?

I wasn’t sure what to do, but cleaning seemed like a good idea. My mom pressed the off button when I left it on before a trip.

Sounds like you might have spun up the fans too hard with the compressed air. That could lead to a problem, but what actually exploded and caught fire?

I really don’t know! One second I was cleaning, and the next there was a fire. I jumped back in shock.
