Hey everyone! I'm about to drop a good amount of cash on a new PC build and could use your help before I hit that purchase button. Currently, I'm using an i7 Gen 8 with a 1070 Ti, and I'm finally ready for an upgrade. I want to make sure my new build is solid and see if you have any suggestions for improvements or changes. This setup will primarily be for gaming, with some occasional video and photo editing in the mix.
I live in Australia and the prices below are from PC Case Gear, but I haven't shopped around yet. I'm aiming for a sleek black and white desk theme, keeping the LED lighting mainly white to match my desk and chair. My budget is around 10k, but I'm hoping to keep it at 8k or less without compromising on aesthetics or quality.
Here's my proposed build:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D – $799
- GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GeForce RTX 5080 Master 16GB – $2,499
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite WiFi DDR5 – $409
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 64GB DDR5 6000MHz – $399
- Primary Storage: Crucial T700 2TB SSD PCIe 5.0 – $398
- Secondary Storage: Crucial T500 2TB SSD PCIe 4.0 – $220
- PSU: Be Quiet! Dark Power 13 1000W ATX 3.0 – $449
- Case: Montech KING 95 Mid Tower Case Black – $129
- AIO Liquid Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite V2 360mm – $459
- Case Fans: Lian Li Uni TL Fans Wireless
- Monitor: ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM 32" OLED 240Hz – $2,299
Let me know if you spot any red flags or if you'd tweak anything!

If you're only an occasional video editor, you might want to consider a PCIe 4.0 NVMe instead of the PCIe 5.0, since it could save you some cash without a huge drop in performance unless you really need those speeds for serious editing. Just a thought!
Honestly, this build looks great! If the total price fits within your budget, I say go for it. You might save some bucks by going with a slightly less expensive CPU or GPU, but if you want high-end performance to last, it's not a bad idea to invest.
I’d appreciate any tips on where I could cut costs without sacrificing too much on performance or aesthetics! I want this build to last a long time.
I do a bit of editing now and then, but it seems like the 5.0 would give me an edge. What do you think? Is it worth the extra cost?
