Hey everyone! I love using Linux, and while I'm a huge fan—especially with my Steam Deck—I'm having a rough time with my MSI Katana 17 laptop that's running an Nvidia 3060. Initially, everything seems alright, but soon I find myself facing some frustrating problems. I feel like Linux typically works best on certain devices, like AMD setups and specific Dell/Asus Nvidia laptops, but mine seems to struggle after a bit of use. Performance drops dramatically, HDMI support for dual monitors disappears, and the laptop even shuts down unexpectedly. I've tried different Nvidia-focused distros but nothing seems to stick. Is there something I might be missing here?

CachyOS is perfect for your needs! It’s an Arch-based distro with a user-friendly installer, custom kernels for gaming, and even built-in tools for optimizing Nvidia setups. Many users report much better performance compared to standard distros. You should definitely give it a shot!
Just switched to CachyOS and it's already looking way better for my setup!
If you want to stick with Linux, you can always dual boot Windows for gaming while using Linux for everything else. That's been my setup, and it works beautifully!
Dual booting sounds practical, but I'd love to get gaming to work directly on Linux too.
Smart move! It’s a solid way to balance both worlds.
I've been using CachyOS on my MSI stealth laptop and the Nvidia drivers work fine for me. It's not perfect—I can't get HDR on Linux, but that might be due to the display drivers. Have you considered trying CachyOS? It’s designed for situations like ours, and it could really enhance your gaming experience!
Sounds promising! CachyOS has been a game changer for me too. I hope it works out for you!
I have HDR working on my desktop with Nvidia, but not all games support this option. But yeah, try CachyOS!
The Steam Deck was specifically built for Linux, so comparing it to other hardware isn't entirely fair. Have you tried using Bazzite? It’s similar to SteamOS and might give you a better experience since it has broader compatibility.
I just installed Bazzite, and while some things broke on me, I've heard good things about it! What has your experience been like?
I agree! Having a dedicated Linux device like the Steam Deck makes a difference. Bazzite is worth a try!
I use Pop!_OS on my Acer laptop with an Nvidia GPU and have a smooth experience gaming via Proton. You might want to consider it, as it’s been reliable for many users!
What version of Pop!_OS are you on? I've been curious about trying it out!
I might just do that—thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the detailed info! I definitely need to check out CachyOS.
