Need Help Setting Up a Dual Desktop and Laptop Workstation

Hey everyone! I'm not very tech-savvy, and my IT guy isn't much help. I work remotely for a school district, which means my desktop and laptop have a lot of restrictions. I really need a way to use the same keyboard and mouse for both my desktop (which has two monitors) and my laptop. One of my work programs requires a VPN, but while I'm on it, I can't access the internet, so I need both devices. Our IT's only suggestion was for me to bring my desktop back to Florida to download some app, which is frustrating. Is there a better way to manage this situation? Help would be much appreciated!

You might want to check out Mouse Without Borders! It's designed to allow you to use one mouse and keyboard across multiple computers. Just a heads up, though—you might hit a roadblock with installation due to those pesky admin restrictions.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I can't download anything with those limitations!

Have you considered wireless devices that can switch between multiple computers? For instance, my Logitech MX Anywhere mouse lets me hop between three devices seamlessly. Plus, with Logitech Flow, you can even copy-paste between them!

But I assume I'd need to install Logitech Flow, right? I can't download apps on either device because of the admin locks.

A KVM switch could be just what you need! It lets you control multiple computers with one set of keyboard and mouse. Just make sure to check if both your laptop and desktop can work with it, given the admin restrictions.

That's what I've heard! But is there any specific issue when using a KVM with both machines having admin restrictions?

Honestly, you could just switch the keyboard and mouse plug between the two computers as needed. Some users go with two separate keyboards and mice, especially since your laptop has its built-in ones. It's not the most elegant solution, but it can work pretty well!

It may work, but it's not efficient for me. I really need to use both programs simultaneously!
