I'm putting together a PC build centered around the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the RTX 5080. I've settled on most of the components, but I'm still deciding on the case and power supply. Based on the parts I've selected, am I missing anything important in the build? You can check out my parts list below to see what I have so far:
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
- **CPU Cooler:** Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black 55 CFM CPU Cooler
- **Motherboard:** MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
- **Memory:** G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 32 GB DDR5-6000
- **Storage:** Two Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSDs (2TB and 4TB)
- **Video Card:** Asus TUF GAMING GeForce RTX 5080
I'm all set with most of the parts, but I just want to ensure I'm not breaking any PC building rules or overlooking anything crucial!

I would steer clear of ASUS for your build. I've had issues with their quality in the past, especially with lower-end products. Instead, look at a different motherboard brand, maybe MSI, for better reliability. Also, consider switching from the Samsung 990 Pro SSDs to something like the 990 Evo or Evo Plus. They won't impact gaming performance but will save you some cash. And definitely check out alternatives for your cooler; the Peerless Assassin and Phantom Spirit are great options for the price.
What are you mainly using this PC for? If it's primarily for gaming, you might not need to go all out on some components. For instance, switching to a less expensive CPU cooler, like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit, could save you around $60. Also, consider whether you really need the Samsung Pro drives; if you're just gaming, those are overkill and there are cheaper options that perform well. Lastly, regarding your motherboard, just make sure it's essential for your needs because you could save some money with a different choice. Oh, and don't forget to choose a power supply!
I’m curious about your cooler choice. A single tower air cooler shouldn't cost $100 unless it's a premium model, but the Noctua might be slightly outdated. There are a lot of better and more cost-effective coolers available today that could work just as well!
Do you have a specific reason for choosing that motherboard? If it's just based on a review, I’d encourage you to look into other boards as well. There are plenty of solid options out there, and you may find better value elsewhere.
I'm open to suggestions! I saw a review that highlighted its performance, but I know there are many options. My current build has an Asus board, but I've heard mixed things about their recent motherboards.
I'm primarily gaming at 1440p, aiming for 240Hz, plus streaming and some photo editing. I do have a bit of a Samsung bias but thanks for the tip! I initially picked the motherboard because it was recommended for performance, but I'm open to other options.
