I'm building a new gaming PC and my budget is around $2000. I'm down to the last decision between the RX 7900 XTX and the RX 9070 XT. I've been checking out benchmarks, and while the 7900 XTX seems to perform slightly better, it's also a bit older. I'm focused solely on 1440p gaming and want the highest FPS possible. I don't care about ray tracing or FSR—I'm never going to use them. So, which card is the better choice for my needs?

I'd go with the 9070 XT. It offers better efficiency, usually comes cheaper, and the encoder is a plus. Plus, for 1440p gaming, it should handle everything you throw at it really well!
Honestly, between the two, just pick whichever is cheaper. If you're set against using FSR or ray tracing, either card should perform adequately for your needs.
I appreciate the input, but I want to understand if the new card really is worth the extra cash without those features.
If ray tracing doesn't matter to you, the RX 7900 XTX can still be a solid choice if you can snag it at a good price. It's powerful, and sometimes the older tech can beat the latest depending on the games you're playing.
That's what confuses me, it's weird how the older model holds up so well!
Keep in mind that while you don't care about FSR now, future games might be more optimized for it. The 9070 XT has better potential for upcoming titles that could lean into those features.
Yeah, but I'd rather just turn down settings for better FPS than deal with upscaling issues.
Thanks for the input!
