Looking for Advice on My $1200 PC Build

I'm planning a new PC build with a budget of around $1200, and I'm looking for advice on how to maximize value. My old setup includes an R5 3600, 32GB DDR4 3200, a 3060 Ti, and a Corsair RMX 750 80+ Gold PSU. I already have a case that I'm going to reuse. Here's what I'm currently considering: I've picked an Intel Core i7-12700KF processor and paired it with some 32GB DDR5 memory. I've also chosen a 1TB NVMe SSD, a new video card, and other components to complete the build. I'm from an area without a Microcenter, so I'm hoping to get some tips! Check out my part list for full details.

Since you're already considering AMD options, I'd recommend going with the AM5 platform if you can swing it. It gives you room for upgrades without needing a new motherboard later. Plus, if you're gaming heavily, the xx70 class cards provide a nice bump over the xx60 series, so it sounds like a solid investment for you!

I agree! AM5 looks like a smart choice for future-proofing. But really, it depends on your budget and needs for now.

You know, if the goal’s just to upgrade, and you're happy with your current setup, maybe just a graphics card upgrade could do the trick? Keep your existing hardware and save that budget for a solid GPU upgrade—it could be worth it!

I like the idea, but I’m also concerned about my motherboard having some issues with dead USB ports. That’s pushing me to consider a full upgrade.

You might consider keeping your current PSU and just going with a less powerful one to save money. It's also worth noting that while 12GB of VRAM on that video card is nice, for 1080p gaming, it shouldn’t be a big issue. Maybe look at the AM5 7600 or even the 5700X3D if you want to stay within budget and get solid performance.

The idea of reusing the PSU sounds tempting! I guess I should evaluate how much I'll really push the new parts.

A lot of folks would suggest looking into an AMD 7600 or 9600X instead of sticking with Intel, especially for gaming. You could also downgrade your PSU; an 850W would be plenty for your build and save you some cash. Just a thought!

Good point! I went for the 1200W, thinking it might help for future upgrades, but it’s true that it raises costs right now.
