Why Am I Getting Low FPS with My New GPU?

Hey everyone! I'm experiencing disappointing performance with my new GPU. I recently upgraded from a 2060 Super to a 5070 TI, expecting to achieve over 100 FPS in most games at max settings. However, that's not happening, and I'm starting to wonder if my GPU is faulty or if there's something else going on. For example, in RDR2 at 1440p maxed out, I'm only getting around 90 FPS in open areas and it drops to 60-70 FPS in small towns like Strawberry. In GTAV Enhanced, I see 59-70 FPS in the city with all ray tracing enabled and max settings. AC Shadows runs over 120 FPS with frame generation but drops to around 55-60 FPS without it. Oblivion Remaster gets 120 FPS but has stutters using Hardware RT and maxed settings with frame gen, dropping to about 45 FPS in the open world. I'm really desperate for any advice you can offer! Here's my system setup: RTX ZOTAC SOLID SSF 5070TI, i7-9700K, MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC, WD Blue SN550 NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB, Kingston HyperX DDR4 2666 C16 2x16GB, and a CM 750W BRONZE power supply. Thanks for your help!

Your CPU is pretty outdated and may not be keeping up with your new GPU.

It’s possible your GPU isn’t getting enough power. Make sure it’s in the right PCIe slot for optimal performance—using lower slots can limit power availability. Also, check your BIOS to see if your GPU is registered correctly. In the worst case, it could be a motherboard issue.

Now that you mention it, since installing the new GPU, my motherboard's Wi-Fi controller has been acting up and struggling to connect to the 5GHz Wi-Fi. Are there other signs that could indicate a failing motherboard? Also, would upgrading my PSU really impact performance? Some say it only causes crashes or black screens, not FPS drops.

You might want to try lowering your graphics settings and see if that helps improve your FPS. If it doesn’t, your CPU might be the bottleneck. Also, I’d recommend not using frame generation while benchmarking; it complicates things unnecessarily.
