Hey everyone! I'm trying to set up a device for an escape room that will be locked down to a single local webpage (it's an HTML file saved on the device). I'm wondering if there are any alternatives to Windows Kiosk Mode that I could use for this. Also, if I do end up needing to use Windows Kiosk Mode, could anyone tell me what the cheapest Microsoft license is to fully access it? Thanks for your help!

If you're leaning towards Windows, I recommend setting Chrome to start as your shell by changing its settings to use the `--kiosk` flag. This way, you can bypass the Kiosk Mode limitations and still open your specific HTML file. Plus, it’s cheap and easy to implement!
Don’t overcomplicate things! A used Android tablet could do the trick. Use a product like Fully Kiosk - it’s user-friendly and often doesn’t even need a paid license. Look for a sturdy tablet from Samsung or Lenovo that can handle constant charging.
Have you considered using Linux instead of Windows? You could boot into a lightweight Linux OS that runs nothing but a web browser. It might simplify the process for you! Check out Fedora Kiosk as an option. It could serve your needs well!
You can actually create a shortcut on your desktop that runs Edge in kiosk mode with the command `msedge.exe -kiosk --site=C:file.html`. Don't forget to set up a local group policy to autostart this file on startup, and consider utilizing autologon for more seamless access.
I’ve used Porteus Kiosk in the past for similar setups, and it worked out great! It’s write-protected and you can easily create a whitelist for what users can access. Definitely worth checking out if you're considering a dedicated kiosk solution!
