I'm trying to breathe some life into an old laptop by giving Linux a shot, but I'm struggling with my Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M. I want to play some classic games, but none of the installation tutorials have worked for me yet. Am I just wasting my time, or is there a way to make this work?

What are the specs of your laptop besides the GTX 560M? And which distros have you tried so far? That could definitely affect compatibility.
What games are you trying to play? Also, what Linux distro and drivers are you using? Those details could help figure out what's going wrong.
I'm trying to run Steam games like the first Just Cause, Halo, and Portal. They should run fine on my card. I've been using various Ubuntu distros like Mint, Kubuntu, and Pop!_OS.
Just to let you know, the GTX 560M only works with the 390 drivers, which aren't supported by most modern distros anymore. You could try using Linux Mint with The Graphics Team PPA to get those drivers installed.
I did get some drivers from the Nvidia website, experimenting with both the oldest and newest versions of the 390 drivers and a few in between.
It's an old ASUS ROG laptop with 3GB of video memory. I've experimented with Mint, Kubuntu, Pop!_OS, and Nobara. I found out that Fedora doesn't support older drivers anymore, so I've been focusing on Ubuntu.
