How to Fix Incorrect Location Data in Windows from Reused APs

I recently updated the access points (APs) in one of our office locations with units that were just decommissioned from another site. Even though we factory reset the APs, configured new subnets, and used a different WAN IP, Windows still geolocates our devices to the old office location. I've read that this could be due to how Microsoft and other data providers maintain geolocation databases that map BSSIDs to physical locations, potentially with data collected from GPS-enabled devices that sense nearby Wi-Fi networks.

This issue is critical because it affects our Teams telephony, which relies on accurate location data to report to emergency services when 911 is dialed through the Teams client. Currently, it's showing the wrong address. Has anyone else faced this problem and successfully worked with Microsoft to resolve it? If so, what support channel did you use? I already tried submitting a ticket from the 365 admin portal and also sent feedback through the Windows Feedback Hub.

You're right about the databases being crowdsourced, but actually, it's Skyhook who handles a lot of this data, not Microsoft directly. So, reaching out to Microsoft might not help much. Instead, you should try using a device with a GPS and see if you can log into a Skyhook-enabled service (like Microsoft 365) while near those APs to help update their location.

Would I need to visit each AP separately to log in, or is just being in range of them enough? We've got a large setup with multiple floors and wings, so I'm wondering what would be the best approach.
