Should I Use Case Fans to Monitor GPU Temperature?

I've set up some case fans in my PC to help with cooling, using two front intake fans to monitor the motherboard temperature. While gaming, my GPU is hitting about 72 degrees Celsius, with a hotspot around 92 degrees. I recently changed one of the front intake fans to monitor the GPU temperature instead and adjusted the speed so it kicks in strongly when the GPU exceeds 60 degrees Celsius. However, I've only seen a slight temperature drop of 1 or 2 degrees for the GPU and hotspot. Is it really beneficial to set the case fans to monitor the GPU temperature? It seems like I'd need additional software for that, while monitoring the motherboard is easily managed by the BIOS. Am I missing something?

Honestly, it might not make a lot of sense to monitor GPU temp with case fans. They usually react slower than GPU fans, which ramp up right away under load. There's typically a delay of 5-20 minutes for case fans, so during long gaming sessions, it doesn’t really provide meaningful data to complicate things. You could consider using a dedicated cooler controller with its own sensor in the GPU radiator instead.

How much does your motherboard temperature rise after a few hours of gaming? I see mine go from about 40 degrees idle to around 45-50 during gaming. Should I worry if it climbs up to 70-80 degrees?
