Which GPU Should I Choose After My GTX 960 Upgrade?

Hey everyone! I'm finally looking to update my PC after about 8 to 10 years. Right now, I'm running a GTX 960, and it's definitely time for an upgrade. I'm dealing with two main components: the GPU and the CPU. My budget isn't super tight, but prices where I live are a bit higher than in the US, so I won't mention specific figures. I'm considering the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the 9800X3D for the CPU. For the GPU, I'm torn between the RTX 5070 Ti and the 5080 because I've heard mixed reviews about the 5080. My main questions are: Which CPU would work best with these GPUs without causing any bottlenecks? And should I go for the 5080 or save some cash and get the 5070 Ti, then wait a couple of years to upgrade to a better GPU? I really care about ray tracing, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Either get the 5070 Ti or the regular 5070. The 5070 Ti costs quite a bit more, but the performance difference isn't that significant. The 5080 offers better performance, but it’s a step up in price for not a huge leap in performance—around 15% faster than the 5070 Ti.

Wait, are you sure about that? The 5070 Ti is actually around 28% faster than the regular 5070 and has more VRAM. The performance gap between the 5080 and 5070 Ti is only about 15%.

I'd recommend pairing the Ryzen 7 7800X3D with the 5070 Ti. It provides great gaming performance at a reasonable price, and it should hold up well for years without any issues.

Totally agree! The 5070 Ti is a solid choice for gaming without breaking the bank.

If you're okay with occasional dips below 60 FPS in GPU-heavy games, the 7800X3D with 5070 Ti should work great. But if you want consistent 60+ FPS in everything at 1440p, the 5080 is the way to go, even with the higher cost.

While the 9800X3D gives about 8-12% more performance in games, the 7800X3D is still a strong option, especially for gaming purposes. As for the GPUs, I think the RTX 5080, while a bit pricier, is about 15% faster than the 5070 Ti. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend it at that price point unless you really need that extra power.
