Should I Stick with My Current RAM or Look for an Upgrade?

I recently built my first PC and attempted to enable EXPO to achieve 6000MHz on my RAM, but I ran into issues as my PC failed to POST and booted into safe mode instead. The RAM I purchased isn't on the QVL list, but I got it at a good price. Now I'm wondering if I should attempt a manual overclock, or if it's better to just return the RAM and get a kit that is on the QVL list. Here are my parts: ASUS ROG STRIX B650-A Gaming WIFI 6E, Ryzen 9 7900X, Patriot Viper Elite 5 6000MHz DDR5 (64GB), RX 9060XT, an AIO cooler, 850W Vetroo PSU, and an M.2 SSD.

Have you tried updating your BIOS? That can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and help with RAM performance. Just check to make sure it's up-to-date before you dive into any overclocking metrics. It's an easy step that could save you a lot of hassle!

Yeah, I should mention that my BIOS is already up to date!

Consider trying EXPO again, but this time with a slight increase in vCore SoC voltage. Sometimes, just a little extra voltage can make a big difference! By the way, how many sticks are you using?

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind! I have a 2x32GB kit.

The 7900X officially supports only up to 5200MHz with 2 sticks and 3600MHz with 4 sticks. Most users can push 2 sticks to 6000MHz, but it’s not guaranteed. I'd recommend first testing with the official 5200MHz setting. Try enabling EXPO and then manually set the DRAM Frequency down to 5200. If that works, you can slowly increase it to 5400, 5600, and so on.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize the 7900X had such limitations! Thanks for clarifying, I’ll give that a try.
