Why is my PC stuck at 100 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps?

Hi everyone! I'm facing a frustrating issue with my PC's internet speed. It used to connect at 1 Gbps, but now it's only negotiating at 100 Mbps. My Ethernet port on the motherboard can support up to 2.5 Gbps, so this drop in speed doesn't make sense to me. I've already tried several troubleshooting steps: restarting both my PC and router, testing the same Ethernet cable with another device where it works fine at 1 Gbps, using a different verified 1 Gbps cable, updating my network adapter drivers, resetting the router to factory settings, changing the Speed & Duplex settings to 1 Gbps (which didn't work), and using different ports on the router. I'm starting to think the Ethernet port on my motherboard might be the issue, but I'd prefer to avoid buying a new motherboard or heading to a repair shop. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? Thanks a lot!

Just to clarify, how are you measuring your speed? Sometimes people mix up Mbps with mbps. Make sure to check that you're testing your speed correctly!

I get that! I test through speedtest.net and also by downloading games on Steam. I used to see about 800-900 Mbps on speedtest.net, but now it's dropped to around 90 Mbps. I meant 'mbps' with a small m, not 'Mbps' with a big M.

If you have an extra slot on your motherboard, consider picking up a cheap Network Interface Card (NIC). It's an easy fix and might solve your problem without needing to replace the whole motherboard!

Yeah, good idea! I'll order one.
