Hey everyone! I recently accepted an offer to join AWS as a Software Development Engineer for a cleared program. I have the option to work in either Herndon, VA, or HQ2 in Arlington, both of which reportedly have SCIFs. I'm looking for insights from those who have experience in similar roles. Here are a few things I'd love to know:
1. What's it like working in a cleared SDE position at AWS?
2. Can anyone describe the daily routine inside the SCIFs? Am I allowed to have my phone with me, or is it offline for the entire day?
3. Are there specific teams or programs known for having a good work culture?
4. How long does it typically take for AWS to sponsor a full-scope polygraph, if required by the program?
Thanks in advance for any help!

When I worked in a SCIF, we had lockboxes outside where we had to keep our phones. So yeah, expect to be completely offline during work hours. It can feel a bit isolating, but it’s standard procedure for security reasons.
If you're working in a partitioned environment, be prepared for things to be a bit manual, which can slow down your workflow. It really depends on which team you end up on—I've heard some are more efficient than others, especially between Herndon and HQ2.
That's interesting! Was that your experience at Herndon or HQ2?
