What Are Secure Alternatives for File Sharing Sensitive Documents with Clients?

I'm on the hunt for secure alternatives to popular file-sharing platforms like Google Drive and Dropbox, which we can't use because we need better tracking capabilities. We're looking for something that acts like a secure data vault, allowing us to share sensitive files and folders with clients, whether they're new or existing. The solution we need should enable us to set expiration dates for files or links that will automatically purge after some time.

Additionally, it's crucial that we can track detailed audit logs for all shared files. Although we're currently using OneDrive and SharePoint, we're considering an external SharePoint site, but it feels like we might need something more robust. Since our development work heavily relies on AWS, we're curious whether there's a built-in AWS solution we can utilize or if we can create and customize our own using AWS services. Any recommendations for secure file-sharing tools with these features would be extremely helpful!

Citrix ShareFile is probably the closest to what you're looking for—it fits the bill pretty well. Another option to consider is Egnyte; it has great functionality and auditing, but it might be a bit more complex than what you need right now.

I went with files.com, and I found it to be a robust solution with lots of customizable options. It's worked great for me, and I think it might suit your needs!

You should definitely look into AWS WorkDocs or maybe set up a custom S3 solution with pre-signed URLs. That way you could include audit logs and file expiration for secure and trackable sharing, but just a heads up, I've heard WorkDocs might be shutting down soon.

Yeah, I heard about that too! Here’s the link for more details on WorkDocs ending support: https://repost.aws/questions/QUzifW53EpRL-dM8VTSCvIPw/amazon-workdocs-support-ending-emails

Have you considered Microsoft Purview? It has built-in protection for documents with information rights management. Even if someone downloads the files, you can still track and control access. It was a lifesaver for us during a company sale when new IT couldn't get around our document restrictions! Definitely a solid 10/10 recommendation.

That's a great point! We had a similar experience, and it really helped us maintain control over sensitive info.
