I'm looking to build a new PC for 4K gaming, and the 5080 seems like a great choice overall, but I'm a bit concerned about the 16GB of VRAM it has. I really want to avoid upgrading for a long time—ideally about 6 years. Will the 5080's 16GB VRAM hold up for that long?

Yeah, 16GB should work for now! It really depends on your gaming preferences and future developments in gaming tech.
You might struggle in 6 years, especially once the next console gen rolls out. They might have more VRAM, which could push game developers to require more for PCs too.
If you're considering upgrading in the future, waiting for a super variant could be wise. Many think the next console generation will push VRAM needs even higher, possibly 24GB or more, so you might want to think ahead!
I hear you! I just hope I won't face any crazy price hikes like we see with scalpers!
I’ve tested my 16GB at 4K around path tracing, and the performance drops pretty badly if you enable it. Most games don’t max out that VRAM, so I usually keep path tracing off. Just something to think about!
That's solid info! I'm all about max settings, even if it means lower FPS, so I appreciate the heads up.
Isn't the new console gen expected around 2027? So, you're saying I should expect to upgrade by 2029?
