Help with Winlogon 4005 Error on RDP Connections

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a frustrating issue on my Windows Server 2016 at work. For the past couple of months, I've been getting a Winlogon 4005 error when trying to connect via RDP. After entering my login details, the screen just goes black and then closes the window entirely. This server is hosted on a Proxmox VM and has been running fine for about four years until now. The odd part is that if I restart the VM, RDP works without a hitch for a day or two before the issue returns. I've ruled out any recent updates causing this and ran an 'sfc /scannow' command, but nothing seems to help. Any thoughts on what might be going on?

I came across an interesting post that seemed similar to what you're describing. It's about the black screen issue during RDP connections. You might want to check it out and see if any of those suggestions help: [link to reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/s/dwdfGpdTN2).

I looked at it, but it seems there are around 200 firewall rules in place, so I don't think that's the root of the problem.

Honestly, if you're on Server 2016, you might want to consider upgrading to a newer version. It's nearing EOL and that could lead to more issues down the line. Moving to something like Server 2019 or even 2022 might save you a headache later on since they are still supported and typically more secure. It might be a win-win to look into that!

I get that, but I thought Server 2016 is supposed to be supported until 2027? I'm just worried about the migration process.
