Is the Ryzen 5800X3D a Good Upgrade from the 5600X?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5600X paired with an RTX 3080 in my setup. Recently, I've been playing the BF6 open beta, and I've noticed that it's pretty CPU intensive—I'm getting around 65-85 FPS at 1440p on ultra settings. I'm wondering if upgrading to a 5800X3D would give me a noticeable performance boost in CPU-bound games. I built my system back in 2021 and got impatient waiting for AM5, so now I'm a bit stuck with limited upgrade options. Any thoughts?

The 5800X3D is a solid improvement as long as you can grab it for a decent price. I upgraded from a 7600 to a 7800X3D and saw a big FPS increase in games like Marvel Rivals and a nice boost in BF6 too. Just make sure it's worth it instead of jumping straight to AM5.

HW Unboxed recently addressed this, and the short answer is yes, you'll see an improvement. However, at 1440p, you might need an RTX 5080 or 5090 to really notice the difference. Personally, I'm sticking with my 5600 for now and maybe wait for another generation.

Thanks for the info! I might hold off a bit longer then.

If you're looking for a cheaper option to test, consider lowering the game settings to high or medium. You might squeeze out some extra FPS that way.

Yeah, I've tried that, but the FPS didn't really change much.

Have you checked your CPU usage while gaming? That could give you a better idea of what's bottlenecking your performance. The in-game performance monitor could show you frame render times for both your CPU and GPU.

I'm not sure how to find the frame render time in the overlay, where is that?
