Hey everyone, I'm planning to upgrade my RAM from 2x8GB sticks to 4x8GB sticks but had a quick question. Do I need to replace the RAM sticks I already have, or can I just add two more? I'm using an ASUS PRIME B550 PLUS motherboard and an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G CPU. What do I need to consider for this upgrade? Thanks for your help!

In theory, you can add the two new sticks alongside your existing ones, but if you want the best performance, try to stick to RAM from the same kit. It’ll help with dual channel performance. If you can get your hands on two sticks that match your current ones, that would be the way to go!
You definitely can go for the 4x8GB setup! But keep in mind that with four sticks, you might face stability issues, especially if they’re from different manufacturers. AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600G is pretty forgiving, but ensure all RAM sticks are set to the same speed and timings in BIOS. This usually helps things run smoothly!
You can definitely add two more sticks without replacing your current ones! Just remember, it’s best if the new RAM matches the old in terms of brand, speed, and type. You don’t want to mix different types too much, especially if it’s DDR5, since that can cause instability. Make sure to check your BIOS settings after installation to set the clock speed correctly for all four sticks.
Yeah, mixing RAM can be tricky. If your old sticks are DDR4, you might be okay, but for DDR5, it’s safer to keep things uniform. It's all about balancing stability with performance.
True! Also, just run them at the speed of the slowest stick to avoid headaches. If everything matches well, you should be fine.
