My New PC Isn’t Performing Like My Old One – What’s Going On?

I've got a pretty solid gaming rig, but for some reason, it runs worse than my old PC that had inferior components. I recently upgraded my monitor to a 4K OLED, and I'm wondering if that's contributing to the issue. I'm experiencing crashes and frequent FPS drops while gaming, which didn't happen with my previous setup. My current specs are a Ryzen 9 7950X 3D, an RTX 5080 FE, a 4TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD, 2x32GB of Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM at 6000MHz, a Corsair RM1000x power supply, and a Tomahawk E670 motherboard. Can anyone suggest ways to diagnose this problem or run tests to check for issues? Thanks!

What specs did your old PC have? Sometimes older models can handle certain tasks better if they were optimized for lower settings.

It had an RTX 3080 and a 10th Gen Intel i9-10900.

Upgrading to 4K from a lower resolution definitely impacts performance. Try running your games at the old monitor's resolution to see if there’s a performance difference. That could help identify if it's just the 4K that's causing the drops.

I get that, but regardless of the resolution, my games shouldn't be crashing like they do.

Make sure your monitor is connected to the GPU via DisplayPort and not HDMI. Sometimes, a faulty cable or port can cause issues too. If you have your old GPU, try swapping it back in and see if the problems persist.

I’ve got it connected with DisplayPort.
