I've recently discovered that there are some security concerns surrounding Ventoy, particularly about things like binary blobs. I'm curious to know how safe it actually is for creating boot drives and if there are any viable alternatives available.

I do recall some discussions around potential alternatives, but I can’t remember the specific names. There is GRML, which allows you to create a GRUB setup and boot ISO files from a directory, but it’s not nearly as user-friendly. If you don’t need the multi-boot feature that Ventoy offers, there are plenty of other tools for making Linux installer USBs. But personally, I have no issues using Ventoy!

The security concerns about Ventoy are somewhat valid but often exaggerated. Yes, it includes quite a few binary blobs, making it tricky to audit thoroughly. However, the maintainer of its AUR package has worked hard on replacing many of these blobs with auditable versions. You can check out the details of that work in the AUR package. While this doesn't guarantee the binaries are completely safe, it's a step in the right direction. Overall, for personal use, I'd say Ventoy is pretty safe, just stay conscious about the security aspects!

From what I know, Ventoy is perfectly fine. There aren't any direct alternatives that function exactly like it for multi-ISO setups. If you need multi-boot capabilities, Ventoy is one of the best options out there!

Honestly, I hadn’t really heard about any valid security concerns with Ventoy before. Since it's an open-source project, anyone can look over the code. As long as you download it from an official source, it's generally safe to use. Just keep that in mind, and you should be good!
