Is it risky to force shutdown my PC after GPU issues?

Hey everyone! I recently installed a new RTX 5070 Ti and after two days of testing, I had to unplug my power cable due to unstable weather while I was away for 5 days. When I got back and turned on my PC, there was no signal to my TV through HDMI. I ended up force shutting down my PC by holding the power button. Now, I'm facing a bluescreen with error code 0xc0000221 and I had to reset my PC to get it working again. It works now, but I had issues launching games and had to reinstall my NVIDIA drivers after this mess. Isn't it strange that a driver had to be reinstalled after such an incident? Also, how bad is it to force shutdown like that? Can it damage the GPU? Is holding down the power button equivalent to pulling out the power cable? Any insights would be appreciated!

Those error codes are a pain! It sounds like your system may have had a driver mismatch or something caused it to fail during updates. Booting into recovery mode and repairing your installation is a good step. Just be cautious with your new GPU, it shouldn't cause issues, but that hard shutdown could have contributed.

I tried resetting from the startup screen and it didn’t help, so now I’m attempting a clean install via USB. I hope that will solve the bluescreen issue. If not, I honestly don't know what else to do!

If you can avoid it, definitely do. The worst that can happen is corrupting your GPU BIOS, which would require reflashing. But in general, your GPU should be fine with occasional hard shutdowns, especially if you're just stuck at a login screen and have no signal. Just do your best to avoid it when you can!
